The graphic and well-known film "300: Rise of an Empire" was released in spring 2014 upon the entertainment world. And indeed, it's a film that's truly worthy of recognition and praise, but just like its predecessor, this one also has its difficultly in garnering interest from the masses. So much so that even with such strong support for such a movie, Hollywood wasn't able to capitalize on it financially. That said though, the story was never meant to be played out for profit; rather it served as a semi-serious reminder about how hypocritical humanity remains through their actions when faced with threats they cannot overcome (and in this case: corruption and racism). What's nicely conveyed by the film is the sad reality of how easily people turn against their very own kind; to the point that they even end up turning against their own families. The picture starts off with this same reality, then it proceeds to show how one man (the main character) stands valiantly alone in the face of an almost insurmountable onslaught of opponents (including his own people). This theme is quite powerful and should make anyone feel concern over humanity's future; particularly if society continues to incite its citizens against each other by design or otherwise.The film starts off slowly but soon picks up pace after it establishes its themes. The film then proceeds with its storyline by focusing on the conflict between the Persians and the Greeks, with the Athenian Empire once again front and center. The movie's main cast consists of Eva Green ("Casino Royale"), Lena Headey ("300: Rise of an Empire"), Sullivan Stapleton ("Animal Kingdom") and Rodrigo Santoro ("300"), all of which deliver great performances in their roles. The film is directed by Noam Murro (who also directed "300: Rise of an Empire"). The cinematography is good, but not spectacular. The best part about the film is its "mini-war" sequences and the main theme music (digital and accompanied by a great musical arrangement). The musical score was orchestrated by Harry Gregson-Williams, who also composed the music for "300: Rise of an Empire". The sound editing and mixing were well done, although at times there's a bit too much ambient noise.IN SUMMARY: If you enjoyed watching "300: Rise of an Empire" - then you'll definitely enjoy watching this movie as well. Its story isn't as strong as that of its predecessor (in my humble opinion), but it's nonetheless entertaining and has its moments.
